Concert Pianist Berenika Schmitz has returned as the city’s contract artistic director and symphony founder.
Berenika Schmitz created the first ever Dana Point Symphony. She became involved in the cultural arts scene in Dana Point as the artistic director of the Coastal Arts Concert Series two years ago. But her ties to the city developed far beyond her role in helping to develop the popular classical music concerts and visual arts shows; she fell in love with Dana Point and Dana Point fell in love with her.
During its inaugural season all concerts will begin at 7:30 at St. Edwards Church, 33926 Calle La Primavera. Each concert will also include a show by a different local visual artist and concertgoers will be welcomed at a “Meet the Artists” reception following each performance. In honor of the symphony’s premier season, special guests and events will be built into the schedule.

| Multi-million-dollar custom home site purchase sparks rumors that celebs are moving to The Strand |

DANA POINT, Calif. – A recent multi-million-dollar sale at the Strand at Headlands might have unwittingly fueled the buzz that celebrities are building their dream home on one of the oceanfront community’s 118 homesites.
Lynn and Gary Hanson, who recently purchased the ocean view estate-sized homesite, may not be Hollywood celebrities but their company is responsible for designing and producing merchandise for celebrities like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson’s estate.
The San Clemente residents, who have produced official licensed apparel for countless celebrities over their 28 years in business, say they are thrilled about building a home at the Strand.
“We honestly thought that the Strand wasn’t in our price range,” said Lynn Hanson. “But our son Christian knew about the Strand and encouraged us to check it out. One look at the lot and we were sold. It’s an amazing property.” The Hanson’s plan to build a family compound on their 14,000 sq. ft. lot.
In addition to the Hanson’s purchase at the Strand, a family from Mexico bought two home sites in August, bringing the total project sales to more than $235,000,000.
“The three lots that sold in the past 60 days confirms the value and unique location of the Strand,” said Sanford Edward, owner of the 121 acre community. “Our custom homesites are more affordable than most people imagine.”
The three recently sold lots were located in the South Strand neighborhood where pricing starts at $1,950,000. The Strand also offers buyers a Financing Program; they can purchase a custom home site at a low 5% interest rate.
“All home sites have Coastal Commission permits in place, coupled with the City of Dana Point’s commitment to expediting building plans, our buyers can break ground 6 months after purchasing their lot,” said Edward.
The average lot size at The Strand is 11,000 sq. ft., with all home sites offering expansive ocean and Catalina Island views, direct access to Strand Beach and a golf cart tunnel which connects the two guard-gated communities.
Strand property owners also enjoy the recently completed 9,000 sq. ft. private Strand Beach Club that sits a mere 20 feet above the ocean and offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, great room for entertaining with lounge and bar, a pool, spa, and private beach lockers.

The City of Dana Point has hired ROMA Design Group to assist with the development of a new Doheny Villan Plan to revitalize the area. The Doheny Village Plan is intended to encourage new investment, both private and public, and to enhance this important Dana Point area while retaining its unique character.
The City of Dana Point is funding the creation of the Doheny Village through a $340,000 grant from the California Strategic Growth Council. The grant is funding the Doheny Village Plan to serve as a guide to revitalize the area, improve its appearance and encourage a more vibrant business climate. Watch for public meeting dates to engage the community and help shape the development of the Doheny Village Plan.

| Thankful for Heart of Sailing in Dana Point! |

This past Sunday, Heart of Sailing a 501(c)(3) charity set sail out of the Dana Point Harbor with precious cargo. The charity, founded in 2004 by George Saidah, offers free sailing adventures to special needs children and adults alike along with their families.
Although the stats are not in for this years After Thanksgiving Sail, last year 764 individuals from 163 families sailed with 39 captains in 18 chapters, according to their website. A big congratulations to this wonderful group of volunteers who make our community a better place to live!

Saturday. 8 am. I am cruising down Coast Highway on my way to Dana Point's weekly Farmer's Market, just minutes from my Monarch Bay home. I have bushels of fresh fruits and veggies on my mind until I pass the St. Regis Hotel and look to my right to see what seems like an endless expanse of the cobalt blue water. Last Friday's rain has cleaned away any evidence of gloom and the sight completely dismantles my intention to shop for tonight’s dinner -- at least for now. I pass Ritz Carlton Drive and continue down PCH for less than a minute to Strand Beach where I pull into the county parking lot and park. Outside, standing at the top of the north steps that lead down to the beach, the view literally takes my breath away. This beach is why people move here from places like Texas, Florida and even LA. Beyond the beautiful, newly built homes is the rugged conservation park with its miles of trails and, of course, the white sand beach and ocean -- the sight once again reminds me that there is no other place in the world like the Strand.

This Veterans Day we honor the service men and women that have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms that we all enjoy. As Thanksgiving is right around the corner what more do we have to be thankful for than the sacrifices of these brave men and women?

Oceana hosted their 4th annual Sea Change Summer Party in Laguna Beach, Ca. this month. The event welcomed special guests Diane Lane and Josh Brolin. This year's event took place at a spectacular private coastal villa in Laguna Beach. Approximately 400 guests attended the event to raise over $900,000 dollars for Oceana.
The event was hosted by actress Angela Kinsey and actor Ted Danson, featured passionate speeches from Academy Award Nominees Josh Brolin and Diane Lane about the need to protect the world’s oceans. Other celebrities in attendance included: Ted Danson, Aimee Teegarden, Angela Kinsey, Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Q’orianka Kilcher, Oscar Nunez and Austin Stowell.
The Strand is in disucussion with Oceana to host the 2012 Sea Change Summer Party at The Strand Beach Club.

THE STRAND AT HEADLANDS BEACH CLUB VIP GRAND OPENING PARTY
More than 150 guests joined The Strand at Headlands’ new and future residents to celebrate the Grand Opening of its private Beach Club.
Located just minutes away from the Ritz Carlton and St. Regis Resort in Dana Point, The Strand at Headlands is one of Southern California’s last oceanfront communities.
A string quartet and an IMAX film, The Living Sea, by Laguna Beach film maker Greg MacGillivray, that played on flat screen TVs throughout the Club, set the vibe for the casual but elegant VIP party.
The Beach Club at the Strand is the first private beach club built on the oceanfront in California in more than 40 years.
The $10 million-dollar club, designed by award-winning Laguna Beach architect Mark Singer, AIA, rests just 20 feet above the sand. The contemporary stone, steel and glass club features a massive great room with a restaurant-style bar for entertaining, a state-of-the-art ocean view gym, a pool and spa.
Interior designer Kit Lietzow, Kit Design Studio in Laguna Beach, combined organic materials like burl wood and stone with Asian antiques and white leather to create a warm but eclectic feeling throughout the Club.

The Strand at Headlands preferred Hotel partner The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, will be opening their Annual Surfboard Annual Surfboard Auction on November 19, 2011 to raise money for Surfers Healing, an organization that supports children with Autism.
Last year, more than $27,000 was raised for Surfers Healing during the auction and Surfing Santa Contest, bringing the total raised over the last three years to nearly $60,000.
An amazing selection of surfboards will be auctioned off at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel during the Fourth Annual Holiday Surfboard Auction to benefit Surfers Healing, a surf camp which introduces children with autism and their families to the therapeutic properties of surfing.
The auction includes surfboards from such legends as Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Garrett McNamara, Joe Aaron, and a signed board from Joel Parkinson from the 2011 Billabong Tahiti Pro, as well as celebrities and artists including the cast of Sons of Anarchy, Flea and Anthony Kedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sage Vaughn and Wyland. All items will be on display from Saturday, November 19 through December 31 with the bidding closing at noon on December 31, 2011.
